Highland Capital Management’s co-founder and president, James Dondero has over 30 years’ experience in equity and credit market. James Dondero has also served as Cox School of Business Executive Board in Southern Methodist University due to his dedicated philanthropic initiatives in support of education, public policy, and veteran’s affairs. James Dondero also earned highest honors of Beta Alpha Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma having graduated from the University of Virginia; with the dual majors in Finance and Accounting form McIntire School of Commerce. Additionally, Dondero has a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification, a distinction in Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA).

James Dondero later entered a training program in JP Morgan as an analyst at the start of his career in 1984 before starting Highland Capital in 1993 with a partner Mark Okada. At American Express, he was Chief Investment Officer involved in the creation of protective life, GIC subsidiary, making the company over $2 billion between its inception and 1989 to 1993.
