Minister Oliveira feels there is a strong need for new investments from the countries with help from IDB in order meet the inevitable Industry 4.0 revolution. Minister Oliveira says the obstacle before was to create roads and waste to give water now needs to be faced again to modernize the infrastructure. Felipe Montoro Jens reports that the president of IDB Luis Alberto Moreno feels that both building up infrastructure as well as a better bond between the countries is what is important. For Luis Alberto Moreno the region will not be able to develop and take on challenges with these things. Moreno also points out that IDM has gotten on board with recent social demands and has consequently reinforced policies regarding gender equality and maintaining a sustainable environment during project execution.
According to Felipe Montoro Jens, Minister Dyogo Oliveira highlighted that Brazil has made a lot of PPPs for public works over the past 10 years. He says there were about 1,000 PPP projects completed worth at about $360 billion. PPPs have increased in Latin America and the Caribbean. Unfortunately, even with the past gains, several projects can’t get any private capital. Last year IDB loans to Brazil equaled an estimate of $12.9 billion which was 20% more than the previous year.
