Scott Rocklage Helps Lead Efforts in Finding a Cure for Myotonic Dystrophy
The company Expansion Therapeutics has recently participated in efforts to help find a cure to the medical condition known as myotonic dystrophy type 1. The condition results in muscular dystrophy in adults when RNA levels reach toxic levels. Expansion Therapeutics has looked to raise money in order to reach its goal of eliminating the condition. In order to help achieve this goal, Expansion Therapeutics has raise over $55 million with the help of a number of other companies in the healthcare industry including 5AM Ventures. With the help of these companies, Expansion Therapeutics has gotten funds to conduct research on the condition and eventually find a way to help other people overcome myotonic dystrophy type 1. In a recent announcement, Scott Rocklage of 5AM Ventures has mentioned that Dr. Mathew Disney will be in charge of researching the condition and looking for a cure. Rocklage has also mentioned that with the expertise of Dr. Disney, there will be eventual progress in finding a cure to the muscular dystrophy condition.
Scott Rocklage is the managing partner of the healthcare company 5AM Ventures. He has held this position since the year 2004. Before he became the managing partner of the company, he spent a year as its venture partner. Over the course of Rocklage’s career, he has been a major contributor to the management of healthcare companies. He has over 30 years of healthcare management experience. During his three decades in managing healthcare companies, Scott has held a number of high level positions such as chief executive officer, president and chairman of the board. With these positions, he has been able to demonstrate top leadership skills which have allowed many healthcare companies to put together effective medications to cure various medical conditions.
Before Scott began his career in healthcare management, he spent a number of years educating himself. Rocklage attended the University of California Berkeley where he completed a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. After completing this degree program, Rockalge would then move on to pursue a graduate degree in the field as well. He would attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Within a few years, Scott completed a doctorate degree in chemistry and would then begin taking high level positions in the healthcare industry. While he was studying at MIT, Scott would perform research under a renowned Nobel Prize winner in chemistry named Dr. Schrock.
