Dr. Shafik Sachedina: Dental Surgeon, Entrepreneur And Committed Philanthropist

     Dr. Shafik Sachedina is joint chairman of UK-based care and support home Sussex Health Care. The healthcare company provides clients in the Sussex area with specialized care and a wide range of support services for the elderly, mentally frail, dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease suffers, people with neurological disabilities and learning and physical disorders. Sussex Health Care provides those services through the 20 homes they run primarily in Sussex. .

A native of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, Dr. Shafik Sachedina is a dental surgeon. He graduated from the University of London’s Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School in 1975. Dr. Sachedina has practiced dentistry in England for over 40 years and has a sterling reputation. He is also an entrepreneur who has developed substantial business holding in the health-care industry. At Sussex Health Care, Dr. Sachedina and the staff understand the importance of leisure and recreational activities for maintaining good health and they encourage and assist patients to use the homes’ recreational facilities regularly.

Dr. Shafik Sachedina heads the Aiglemont, France based Secretariat of Aga Khan Department of Jamati Institutions. His responsibilities include coordinating programs and activities for the institutions of the Ismaili community in 16 main areas. That includes interfacing with institutions and programs of the Aga Khan Development Network serving Central Asia based Ismaili communities.

Dr. Sachedina is a member of the board of governors of the Jamati Institute, FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance International Co-ordinating Committee chairman, an Aga Khan Development Committee member and an Ismaili Leaders International Forum member. He was also the Ismaili Council UK branch’s president for two terms. Following the Ismaili community’s long-standing tradition, Dr. Sachedina’s work with those organizations is as a volunteer.

As a member of Sussex Health Care’s board, Dr. Shafik Sachedina shares his vast experience with coordinating programs. Sussex Health Care facilities have innovative patient-centered programs to address the challenges their patients face.
