Betsy DeVos’ Benevolence

Betsy DeVos is not an ordinary person but rather is an exceptional reformer. In 1979, while she attended Calvin College where she studied business economics, her interest in campus politics became the root of her political involvement. Betsy DeVos has ever since been an active individual in politics. She has been at the forefront of different campaigns, political action committees and party organization for more than 30 years. It is her involvement that saw her become elected as the chairperson of Michigan Republican Party for four times. Reform has been part of Betsy DeVos‘ family. In the year 2006, the nominee for the post of the governor of the Republican Party was her husband, Dick DeVos.

Betsy DeVos’ magnificence does not rest in politics alone. It goes to business. She seeks to establish innovative resolution into social problems. She is the chair of a multi-company group known as Windquest Group. This group that she and her husband set up in the year 1989 primarily makes its investment in manufacturing, technology as well as clean energy.

Another avenue that Betsy DeVos uses to ensure there is proper change is through some non-profiting roles. She is a philanthropist. She in a great way gives back to the society. Betsy is the co-chairperson of Dick and Betsy DeVos family foundation. In the year 2005 alone, through the family foundation, she dispensed 11.6 million in as a welfare contribution. The amount is much compared to the $5.3 million previously donated for campaign purposes, in a period of 5 years.

For Betsy DeVos and her husband, benevolence in teaching is another approach. In 2015 alone, more than $3 million was given to the cause of education. This donation made 26 percent of the total donations given that year. To those groups that support education reforms, more than $350,000 was given to them. The Dick and Betsy DeVos family foundation offers its support to West Michigan Aviation Academy, a high school with aviation, situated at Gerald R. Ford International Airport, Grand Rapids. Dick DeVos founded the school in the year 2010. The Foundation gives funds to Education Freedom Fund which in turn offer scholarships to children from needy families to attend private schools. The beneficiaries of DeVos Foundation funding have to a great extent added insight to Betsy DeVos on ways of undertaking courses aimed at ensuring better learning environment. Betsy DeVos is the Chair of American Federation for Children, an organization that DeVos Foundation gladly supports.

Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation extend its philanthropy to arts. It sponsors the annual competition known as ArtPrize. The foundation also funds healthcare. For instance, at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital, pediatric oncology is offered.

Betsy DeVos has four children and five grandchildren.
